Chief Finance/Revenue Officer (CFRO)
General Summary
Reporting directly to the CEO, the Chief Finance/Revenue Officer (CFRO) oversees SafeNest’s finances, grants, budget, and revenue strategies. The CFRO is pivotal in managing day-to-day financial processes, developing the annual budget, and driving non-traditional revenue growth through social enterprise initiatives. This strategic role involves conducting cost and operations analysis, overseeing grant and revenue management, and expanding SafeNest’s financial sustainability. The CFRO supervises assigned staff, including a revenue manager, who focuses on increasing sales and exploring new business opportunities aligned with SafeNest’s mission. The CFRO works closely with the CEO and organizational leadership on strategic planning, budgeting, reporting, and complex financial analysis. Key responsibilities include managing the board’s audit and finance committee and leading the annual agency audit. Nonprofit experience is a must.
Key Responsibilities
1. Budget and Financial Management
- Provide strong fiscal leadership within the nonprofit industry.
- Manage day-to-day financial processes and oversee annual budget development.
- Deliver monthly budget and finance reports to agency leadership and the board of directors.
- Process supplemental budgets and allotments based on individual funding sources.
- Regularly monitor fiscal status and projections.
- Conduct cost and operations analysis to support strategic decision-making.
- Lead the annual agency audit, ensuring compliance and documentation accuracy.
- Establish, maintain, and update internal controls and fiscal policies to align with agency practices.
2. Grants Management
- Oversee the Grant Manager to achieve strategic goals and maintain a robust grant pipeline.
- Manage a grant or government contract portfolio of at least $8 million annually.
- Develop, write, and coordinate grant submissions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to create grant budgets.
- Monitor financial management of grants and oversee grant billing processes.
- Ensure compliance with financial requirements outlined in grant contracts.
3. Strategic Oversight
- Collaborate with the CEO and organizational leadership on strategic planning, budgeting, and reporting.
- Conduct complex financial analyses of the overall budget and grant attainment process.
- Develop budget and grant recommendations and projects for review.
- Research and pursue new grant opportunities to increase grant revenue.
4. Revenue Development
- Supervise the Revenue Manager to achieve strategic revenue goals.
- Expand SafeNest’s social enterprise by increasing sales and exploring new business opportunities.
- Utilize SafeNest’s mission to drive non-traditional revenue growth.
- Oversee Coffee and Donation Center departments, ensuring alignment with revenue goals.
5. Supervision and Committee Management
- Supervise bookkeeping, grant management, finance staff, revenue manager, and contractors to ensure high performance and support.
- Manage the board’s audit and finance committee.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to finance and revenue teams.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, public administration, or a related field is required.
- A graduate degree is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 8 to 10 years of experience in financial management, budgeting, and grants management.
- Experience overseeing an operating budget of at least $10 million annually.
- Experience driving revenue and new business development.
- Proficient in writing and reviewing grants and working with government funding agencies.
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Excellent analytical, strategic, writing, and communication skills.
